For any members with an elusive James WILSON ancestor in Tyrone I would be interested in knowing who has done DNA tests, where and what kind.
I manage 8 different tests and most, including mine, are on all the main platforms: Ancestry, FTDNA, GEDmatch, MyHeritage, to name a few. My user name largely appears as Jeanne Gledhill Towle, or Florence Gledhill on MyHeritage.
I’m not sure of the group rules about posting GEDmatch numbers, etc. but I can do that too.
My Irish ancestors are on my maternal side. In addition to the regular autosomal tests, my maternal test at FTDNA shows I am haplogroup J1b1a1e.
I’ve also had a male second cousin do the Big-Y test at FTDNA. His haplogroup is R-FTC60557.
This connection is fairly far back for me, so I expect matches to be between 9 and 15 cM.
Of course, any matches may be to other Irish ancestors than the Wilson’s, but it’s all a piece of the Irish puzzle!

Regarding Wilsons of Tyrone and DNA testing...
Born in Belfast, residing in Canada, I am the direct patrilineal descendant of the Wilsons of Dyan Hill farm, in the townland of Dyan, Civil Parish of Aghaloo. This farm was in the Wilson family from 1662 until 1943, when it was sold out of the family.
I have autosomal DNA results at Ancestry, GEDmatch, FTDNA and MyHeritage. I have Big Y-700 results at FTDNA. Haplogroup: R-BY65155
Nearby townlands also associated with this Wilson line are Kilmore, Killynaul and Enagh. Also the townlands of Benburb, Allen.
Also the area of Wilsontown, Eglish, Co Armagh, across the Blackwater River from Co Tyrone,… (way back, circa 1660s). Townlands are Kilcarn and Culkeeran.
Other late 18th century and 19th century spouse surnames associated with this Wilson line are Cowan (of Tannagh), Cummings, Downey, Duff, Hillock (of Armagh), Irwin, Mullan (of Co Monaghan), Oliver (of Stragrane), Potter, Steele, Stewart (of Aughnacloy), Wright (of Kilmore) and Young.
Happy to correspond - scott@kusawa.net - with anyone regarding potential DNA and family connections.

Hi Scott,
My “other” James Wilson came from Mulnahorn (on the eastern bank of the Blackwater) which is about 8 miles from Dyan. I have often wondered whether the two Wilson families were connected.
It would seem not as my James’ haplogroup is R-FT111354. The only Big Y matches we have are three related men named “Craig”. Not sure what went on there - no doubt an NPE. I can only hope for some other Wilsons (not related to me) to do the Big Y700.
Margaret in Oz.

For all you James Wilson researchers, the file just posted - Brunswick
Constitutional Club, Benburb, Clonfeacle Parish, County Tyrone, Northern
Ireland 1828 - contains yet another James Wilson along with a few other
Wilsons!
Good Luck
Jim
Hi Margaret,
I have a Mulnahorn reference in my database but with an Evelyn McCreedy. Image below from my program. Maybe some connection, maybe not.
Do you have a tree on Ancestry?
Scott
